Traveling Pavilion
Second Year
As part of our 2nd year technology lecture we were asked to design a traveling pavilion for the opening of the Victoria and Albert Museum in Dundee that will visit different locations around Scotland and display several exhibits from the V&A collection. The brief required that the pavilion be designed as a temporary structure that could be easily transported between sites and then erected and disassembled by a small teem in a short amount of time. The pavilion should span 7700mm2 to provide space for the public to view the exhibits and be of simple and robust construction but still have a strong quality of space.
The main challenge posed by this brief is the fact that it needed to be de-constructable which in turn emphasised the need for a clear structural solution as the need to take the space apart has an obvious impact on the structural integrity. However this requirement also pushed me towards a more innovative design outcome.
